Stock Market Week Ahead November 9-13, 2026: CPI, Veterans Day, and What Cisco, Applied Materials and Rocket Lab Did on All 154 Report Days

The week of November 9 is the breather between the megacap reports and the jobs number and the retail and Nvidia week that follows. It still has the two prints that matter most for the December Fed meeting, October CPI on Tuesday and PPI on Friday, a Wednesday on which stocks trade while the bond market is closed for Veterans Day, and three after-the-close reporters: Rocket Lab on Monday, Cisco in the middle of the week, and Applied Materials on Thursday.
As with every preview here, the calendar is only half of it. We measured every report day since 2010 for the three companies, 154 in all, from the SEC filings and adjusted daily bars. Cisco is the steadiest big mover: a median swing of 4.8%, 10 days of 10% or more, and an opening gap whose direction held to the close on all but 5 of 67 report days. Applied Materials has moved less, 2.6% at the median, but has closed down on 9 of its 14 reports since 2023, including -14.1% on August 15, 2025. Rocket Lab is the wild one: 7 of its 21 report days moved at least 10%, in both directions. The schedule with each company's own guidance comes first, then the tables.
The week, day by day
Monday, November 9: Rocket Lab after the close
- Confirmed. Rocket Lab said on October 20 that it will release third-quarter results "following the close of the U.S. markets on Monday November 9th, 2026," with the call at 2:00 PM Pacific, 5:00 PM Eastern, webcast on its investor site. The reaction day is Tuesday.
- Guidance to judge against, from the August 10 release: third-quarter revenue of $250 million to $265 million, GAAP gross margin of 29% to 31%, non-GAAP gross margin of 35% to 37%, and an adjusted EBITDA loss of $17 million to $23 million. Second-quarter revenue was a record $234 million, up 62% from a year earlier, with backlog at $2.36 billion.
- Also Monday evening: Occidental's third-quarter call is Tuesday at 1:00 PM ET per its investor page, which in past quarters has meant a release the evening before.
Tuesday, November 10: October CPI at 8:30 AM ET
- The print of the week. The Consumer Price Index for October, along with real earnings, is on the BLS schedule for 8:30 AM Eastern. It is the last CPI before the December 8-9 Fed meeting; our CPI post has what the S&P 500 did on every CPI morning since 2008 and what to watch in this one.
- Rocket Lab's reaction day.
Wednesday, November 11: Veterans Day, stocks open, bonds closed
- The exchanges are open for a full session and the bond market is closed on the SIFMA recommendation, so Treasuries do not trade and the session runs without them. Our Veterans Day post has the S&P 500's record on every Veterans Day session since 1993 and the volume pattern. No BLS releases are scheduled.
- Cisco, expected but not announced. Cisco had not posted its first-quarter fiscal 2027 date when this was written (its events page lists nothing upcoming; last year's notice came on November 3 for a November 12 call). The pattern in EDGAR: 13 of its 16 November reports since 2010 were released on a Wednesday after the close, with the reaction day falling between November 10 and November 18. This year's Wednesday is the 11th; the exchange calendars list the 11th or the 12th. Treat it as midweek, after the close, until Cisco says otherwise.
Thursday, November 12: Applied Materials after the close
- Confirmed. Applied Materials said on October 22 that it will report fourth-quarter and fiscal 2026 results on Thursday, November 12, with the call at 4:30 PM Eastern, 1:30 PM Pacific, webcast on its investor site. The reaction day is Friday. 14 of its 16 November reports since 2010 were Thursday-after-the-close releases.
- Guidance to judge against, from the August 13 release: fourth-quarter revenue of $10.25 billion plus or minus $500 million and non-GAAP diluted EPS of $4.02 plus or minus $0.20. Third-quarter revenue was $9.12 billion, a record.
- Cisco's reaction day, if it reports Wednesday.
Friday, November 13: October PPI at 8:30 AM ET
- The Producer Price Index for October is on the BLS schedule for 8:30 AM Eastern, the second of the two inflation prints the Fed will have before December 9.
- Applied Materials' reaction day.
Cisco's own guidance, from the August 12 release: first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $18.0 billion to $18.2 billion, GAAP EPS of $1.08 to $1.10 and non-GAAP EPS of $1.32 to $1.34, inside a full-year outlook of $72.2 billion to $73.4 billion in revenue. Fourth-quarter revenue was $17.3 billion, up 18%, with product orders up 35% and $4 billion of AI infrastructure orders from hyperscalers in the quarter.
How we measured the 154 report days
Every 8-K with Item 2.02 (results of operations) that each company filed since the start of 2010 was pulled from EDGAR, and the reaction session was chosen from the filing's acceptance time in Eastern time: all three companies file after 4:00 PM, so the reaction day is the next session in every case. Rocket Lab's record starts with its first report as a public company in September 2021. The close-to-close move, the opening gap, the open-to-close and the five sessions after come from adjusted daily bars; the S&P 500's move the same day is included so a market-wide day is not mistaken for a stock-specific one. Filings before 2010 and amended filings that duplicated a reaction day were dropped, leaving 67 for Cisco, 66 for Applied Materials and 21 for Rocket Lab.
Cisco: big, two-sided, and the gap is the day
Cisco: 67 report days. Up 34, down 33. Median swing 4.8% in either direction, median move +0.4%. 32 of 67 moved at least 5% and 10 at least 10%. Extremes: +15.9% on August 11, 2011 and -16.2% on November 11, 2010. Median opening gap 5.4%, median open-to-close -0.1%; the gap's direction reversed by the close 5 times. The five sessions after a report: up 35 of 67, median +0.3%. The S&P 500's median move on those days was 0.61%.
November reports only (16): up 8, down 8, median swing 5.5%, median move +0.1%. Since 2023: 8 up of 15, median swing 4.6%.
Cisco is the most consistent large mover of the three. Nearly half its report days, 32 of 67, moved at least 5%, and 10 moved 10% or more; the worst day in the record was a November, -16.2% on November 11, 2010, and the best was +15.9% on August 11, 2011. The three most recent reports were the widest stretch since 2010: -12.3% in February, +13.4% in May and -8.4% in August. What matters for anyone trading the day: the opening gap's direction has held to the close on 62 of 67 report days, so the first print has been the day, and fading it has been a losing habit. The sixteen Novembers split 8 up and 8 down.
The last eight, reaction day first, then the close-to-close move, the opening gap and the open-to-close:
- Nov 14, 2024: -2.1%, gap -0.3%, open to close -1.8%.
- Feb 13, 2025: +2.1%, gap +5.7%, open to close -3.4%.
- May 15, 2025: +4.8%, gap +2.9%, open to close +1.9%.
- Aug 14, 2025: -1.6%, gap -3.4%, open to close +1.9%.
- Nov 13, 2025: +4.6%, gap +5.4%, open to close -0.7%.
- Feb 12, 2026: -12.3%, gap -6.9%, open to close -5.8%.
- May 14, 2026: +13.4%, gap +15.4%, open to close -1.7%.
- Aug 13, 2026: -8.4%, gap -8.0%, open to close -0.4%.
Applied Materials: smaller moves, but down on most reports since 2023
Applied Materials: 66 report days. Up 33, down 33. Median swing 2.6% in either direction, median move -0.1%. 19 of 66 moved at least 5% and 2 at least 10%. Extremes: +13.8% on May 20, 2016 and -14.1% on August 15, 2025. Median opening gap 3.4%, median open-to-close -0.5%; the gap's direction reversed by the close 19 times. The five sessions after a report: up 34 of 66, median +0.4%. The S&P 500's median move on those days was 0.35%.
November reports only (16): up 9, down 7, median swing 2.3%, median move +0.1%. Since 2023: 5 up of 14, median swing 4.6%.
Applied Materials moved 2.6% at the median across the whole record and only 2 times by 10% or more, but the recent pattern is one-sided: 5 up and 9 down since the start of 2023, with -14.1% on August 15, 2025 the worst day in the record and -9.2% on November 15, 2024, the November before it. Unlike Cisco, its gaps reverse: the direction flipped by the close 19 times in 66, about 29%, so an open down a few percent has often been bought and vice versa. November reports: 9 up of 16, median swing 2.3%; last November's was +1.2% after a -8.7% gap, a reversal.
The last eight, reaction day first, then the close-to-close move, the opening gap and the open-to-close:
- Nov 15, 2024: -9.2%, gap -9.5%, open to close +0.3%.
- Feb 14, 2025: -8.2%, gap -5.1%, open to close -3.2%.
- May 16, 2025: -5.2%, gap -3.6%, open to close -1.7%.
- Aug 15, 2025: -14.1%, gap -13.6%, open to close -0.6%.
- Nov 14, 2025: +1.2%, gap -8.7%, open to close +10.9%.
- Feb 13, 2026: +8.1%, gap +11.1%, open to close -2.8%.
- May 15, 2026: -0.9%, gap -2.8%, open to close +1.9%.
- Aug 14, 2026: -5.1%, gap -6.6%, open to close +1.6%.
Rocket Lab: 21 reports, seven of them 10% days
Rocket Lab: 21 report days. Up 10, down 11. Median swing 4.6% in either direction, median move 0.0%. 7 of 21 moved at least 5% and 7 at least 10%. Extremes: +37.3% on September 9, 2021 and -11.2% on May 9, 2025. Median opening gap 6.2%, median open-to-close +1.7%; the gap's direction reversed by the close 5 times. The five sessions after a report: up 8 of 21, median -3.2%. The S&P 500's median move on those days was 0.48%.
November reports only (4): up 2, down 2, median swing 6.9%, median move +5.4%. Since 2023: 6 up of 16, median swing 2.9%.
Rocket Lab has reported 21 times since September 2021 and moved 10% or more on 7 of them: +37.3% on September 9, 2021, +28.4% on November 13, 2024, +34.2% on May 8, 2026, and -11.2% on May 9, 2025 on the other side. The median opening gap is 6.2%, the biggest of the three. The week after a report has leaned down, 8 up of 21 with a median of -3.2%, so the report-day pop has tended to give some back. Its four November reports went +12.0%, -1.8%, +28.4%, -1.3%.
The last eight, reaction day first, then the close-to-close move, the opening gap and the open-to-close:
- Nov 13, 2024: +28.4%, gap +31.2%, open to close -2.1%.
- Feb 28, 2025: +3.3%, gap -17.5%, open to close +25.2%.
- May 9, 2025: -11.2%, gap -0.9%, open to close -10.4%.
- Aug 8, 2025: +1.1%, gap +7.5%, open to close -6.0%.
- Nov 11, 2025: -1.3%, gap +7.9%, open to close -8.5%.
- Feb 27, 2026: -4.9%, gap -7.0%, open to close +2.2%.
- May 8, 2026: +34.2%, gap +9.5%, open to close +22.6%.
- Aug 11, 2026: 0.0%, gap -4.7%, open to close +4.9%.
Ranking the three by what a report day usually does
- Cisco: 4.8% median swing, 48% of report days at least 5%, 34 up and 33 down.
- Rocket Lab: 4.6% median swing, 33% of report days at least 5%, 10 up and 11 down.
- Applied Materials: 2.6% median swing, 29% of report days at least 5%, 33 up and 33 down.
How we handle a week like this, and what we leave alone
We do not forecast CPI or any of these reports, and the software does not trade the print itself. Three settings do the work. Earnings awareness is an opt-in rule, off by default, that keeps the auto-trader from opening a position in a stock whose report falls inside a window you pick, 3, 7 or 14 days ahead; with Cisco's date unannounced, the 7-day window is the one that covers the whole week. The daily spend limit caps how much new money goes to work on any one morning, which matters on a CPI Tuesday. A fixed or trailing stop on every position decides the exit before the number, not during it. The settings glossary explains each one, and you can set those rules up in a few minutes.
All three companies report after the close, so the gap at the next open is the first thing any rule sees, and for Cisco that gap has been the whole day on 62 of 67 reports, while for Applied Materials it reversed on 19 of 66. That difference is why we keep the per-company tables rather than one earnings rule. If you want to watch how the mechanics handle a morning like that on a sample account before connecting a broker, start with the demo. The rest of the month, including Nvidia on the 17th, is on the November calendar, and the Q3 earnings season guide lists the remaining reporters by week.
