Crypto fee and spread calculator

Round-trip cost = fee on the buy + fee on the sell + the spread you cross. A $1,000 market-order round trip on Bitcoin costs about $16 at Kraken's entry tier, $10 at Crypto.com's and $5 at Alpaca's, before the price moves at all.

Your pair, size, order style and 30-day volume, priced at each venue's published tier with the spread we measured there. The cheapest venue depends on the pair as much as on the fee: on Bitcoin and Ether the exchanges' spreads were zero, on smaller pairs Alpaca's were wider.

What the calculator counts

Two fees and one spread. The fee is a percentage of the trade on each side, at the maker or taker rate for the order you place and the tier your 30-day volume earns. The spread is the gap between the best bid and the best ask: a market order buys at the ask and sells at the bid, so a market-order round trip pays the whole quoted spread once; a resting limit order on both sides pays none of it; a limit entry with a market exit pays half. Everything is shown per round trip, per month and per year, and as the move the price has to make before the trade is back to zero.

Formula

fees = size x maker or taker rate on the buy + size x maker or taker rate on the sell

spread cost = size x quoted spread x (1 for market both ways, 0.5 for limit in and market out, 0 for limit both ways)

round trip = fees + spread cost | break-even move = round trip / size

monthly = round trips x round trip | yearly = 12 x monthly

Not counted: slippage beyond the top of the book on orders larger than the quoted size, funding or margin costs, deposit and withdrawal fees, network fees on transfers, and the App-side pricing on Crypto.com, which quotes one price with the spread built in and is not the Exchange schedule used here. Our comparisons of fees and spreads on all three venues and Kraken against Crypto.com have the measurements behind the defaults.

Questions people ask

How much does a crypto round trip cost?
The fee on the buy plus the fee on the sell plus the spread you cross. At Kraken's entry tier (0.80% taker) a $1,000 market-order round trip costs $16 in fees; at Crypto.com's entry tier (0.50%) it costs $10; at Alpaca (0.25%) $5. On Bitcoin and Ether the quoted spread added nothing measurable on the two exchanges and about two basis points on Alpaca; on smaller pairs it adds more, which is what the pair selector is for.
What is the difference between maker and taker fees?
A taker order removes liquidity: a market order, or a limit order priced to fill at once. A maker order rests on the book and waits. Every venue here charges less for maker orders, and the gap is large at the entry tiers (0.40% against 0.80% on Kraken). An automated system that enters with limit orders and exits with stops pays the maker rate going in and the taker rate coming out, which is the calculator's mixed setting.
Do the fee tiers change with volume?
Yes, on all three venues. Kraken steps down from $2,500 of 30-day volume and reaches 0.22% taker at $10,000; Alpaca steps down from $100,000; Crypto.com's higher tiers depend on volume and on CRO lockup. Enter your 30-day volume and the tier is applied automatically; the fee fields stay editable if your venue shows you a different rate.
Why does the break-even move matter?
Because it is paid on every trade before the trade makes anything. A 1.6% round-trip cost means the price has to move 1.6% in your favour just to get back to zero, which on a 3% profit target is more than half the target. Lower-fee venues, maker orders and fewer round trips all shrink it. The calculator shows it as a percentage of the trade so you can compare it directly to your targets.
Does JorgAI charge trading fees on crypto?
No. JorgAI is a flat monthly or yearly subscription with no per-trade fee and no share of profits. The venue's own fees apply to every order it places on your behalf, exactly as this calculator shows, and the platform's exits are managed to respect your per-trade cap and daily loss limit, which already include the fees you pay.
