Apple Earnings November 2, 2026: What AAPL Did the Day After Every Report Since 2009, and Why October Reports Are Different

Apple reports fiscal fourth-quarter results on Monday, November 2, 2026, after the close, the first report with John Ternus as chief executive. Across Apple's 68 quarterly reports since October 2009, the stock has moved 3.9% on average on the next session, three times its ordinary day, and has finished that session higher 51% of the time, which is a coin flip with a large stake. The October report is the exception worth knowing: on the 17 fiscal-Q4 reports, Apple closed the next day higher only 6 times, with a median move of minus 0.9%, the weakest of its four quarters. And the one precedent for a new chief executive's first report is not a comfort: Tim Cook's, on October 18, 2011, was followed by a 5.6% drop.
The whole record is below, report by report, with the opening gap, the next-session close, and where the stock stood a week and a month later. The summary comes first, then the October pattern, then what a rules-based account does with a 4% day it cannot predict.
How the numbers are measured
Report dates are the filing dates of Apple's results 8-K at the SEC, which Apple files the same afternoon as the press release, so every "next session" is the first trading day after the numbers. The January 2, 2019 revenue-warning letter is excluded because it was not a quarterly report. "Gap" is the next session's open against the report-day close; "day" is the next session's close against the report-day close; "week" and "month" are 5 and 21 sessions on from the same close, all on split-adjusted prices.
The summary: 68 reports, October 2009 to July 2026
- Next session: +0.7% average, +0.6% median, higher 51% of the time. Average absolute move 3.9%, against 1.2% on an ordinary Apple trading day. 37 of 68 next sessions moved more than 3%; 22 moved more than 5%.
- Opening gap: median +1.6%, up 59% of the time. The gap's direction matched the close's direction on 59 of 68 reports, but on 30 of those the close gave back part of the gap, so the open has usually been the loudest print of the day.
- Week and month: +1.6% average a week on (higher 62% of the time), +3.4% a month on (higher 65%). The next-session direction matched the week's direction 53 times in 68.
- By fiscal quarter (report month): April reports median +2.4%; July +2.0% (higher 65% of the time); January +0.5%; October minus 0.9%, higher 35% of the time.
- By era: 2009 to 2014 median +1.4%; 2015 to 2019 median +2.4% (higher 60%); 2020 to 2026 median minus 0.5%, higher only 41% of the time. The reaction has leaned negative since 2020 even as the stock went up.
- Largest moves: down 12.4% (January 23, 2013), down 8.0% (January 27, 2014), down 7.4% (July 30, 2026, the most recent report and the third worst in the set), down 6.6% (November 1, 2018). Up 10.5% (July 30, 2020), up 8.9% (April 24, 2012), up 8.2% (April 23, 2014), up 7.6% (October 27, 2022).

Why the October report has been different
Apple's fiscal year ends in September, so the October report is the fourth-quarter report, and it carries the only forward look that matters most to the market: guidance for the December quarter, the holiday quarter that produces roughly a third of the year's revenue. The September quarter itself is the least interesting of the four. The result is a report where the headline numbers are old news by the afternoon and the stock trades on one sentence about December. In 17 October reports the next session has been up 6 times and down 11, the gap has been negative 9 times, and the median week on has been minus 0.6%; the exception is October 27, 2022, up 7.6% in a market that was rallying anyway.
The last four Octobers were small: +7.6% (2022), minus 0.5% (2023), minus 1.3% (2024), minus 0.4% (2025). That fits the 2020-to-2026 pattern of smaller, more often negative reactions for a stock that is now a $3 trillion index weight rather than a growth story.
The last time a new chief executive reported
Tim Cook became chief executive in August 2011 and reported his first quarter on October 18, 2011. Apple missed iPhone estimates for the quarter (buyers were waiting for the iPhone 4S), the stock gapped down 5.0% and closed the next session down 5.6%, and it was still down 8.9% a month later. That is one data point, not a pattern, and this year's report comes with Apple's own guidance already on the table: revenue growth of 9% to 11% from a year earlier, as reported by 9to5Mac when the date was set. The release is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Pacific with the call at 2 p.m., per Apple's investor site.
What a rules-based account does with a 4% day it cannot predict
- Nothing predictive. A 51% up rate on 68 samples is a coin flip, and the gap has given back ground on 30 of the 59 days it pointed the right way. JorgAI's auto-trader does not trade the report; it scans setups and acts under the member's caps.
- Sit out the window if you want to. Members can set the auto-trader to skip any stock reporting inside a window they choose (seven days by default), so an open position is not opened the day before a 4% gap. The earnings-awareness setting is off unless turned on.
- Know what a stop does at the open. A stop-loss does not cap the loss on a gap; it sells at the first print after the gap. On the 2013 report that meant 12% below the prior close before any stop could act. Position size is the protection on report days, not the stop; the stop-loss guide covers the arithmetic.
- Count the whole week. Fed day is Wednesday (the record for stocks after every pause), Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon report Wednesday and Thursday (their day-after records), Intel reports Thursday, and Apple closes the stretch the following Monday. A daily loss limit is the setting that keeps five event days from compounding.
The earnings-season playbook covers the general approach, and what the S&P 500 does during earnings season covers the index. Members who want the rules enforced on every report day start on the start page.

Quick answers
When is Apple's next earnings report? Monday, November 2, 2026, after the market close (1:30 p.m. Pacific), with the call at 2 p.m. Pacific. It is the fiscal fourth-quarter report and the first under CEO John Ternus.
What does Apple stock usually do after earnings? Across 68 reports since 2009, the next session moved 3.9% on average in either direction and closed higher 51% of the time, with a median of +0.6%. October reports have been weaker: higher 35% of the time, median minus 0.9%.
Does Apple stock go up or down after October earnings? Down more often than up. On the 17 fiscal fourth-quarter reports since 2009 the next session was higher 6 times and lower 11, because the report is traded on December-quarter guidance rather than the September numbers.
