Retail Earnings Week November 17-19, 2026: What Walmart, Home Depot, Target, Lowe's and TJX Did on All 336 Report Days Since 2010

Retail earnings week November 17-19, 2026: a customer loading groceries onto a supermarket checkout belt

The five largest US retailers that still report on a calendar of their own all land in the same three days this month: Home Depot on Tuesday, November 17, Lowe's, Target and TJX on Wednesday, November 18, and Walmart on Thursday, November 19, every one of them before the opening bell. Walmart has confirmed its date and Lowe's has posted a tentative one; the other three follow a pattern that has not varied in sixteen years, and the details are below with the companies' own guidance. It is the last read on the consumer before the holiday season, it shares a week with Nvidia's report and the Fed minutes, and it runs straight into Thanksgiving week.

What the calendars do not tell you is what these stocks do on their report days, so we measured every one since 2010, 336 in all, from the SEC filings and adjusted daily bars. Target is the stock that moves: a median swing of 3.9%, 11 days of 10% or more, and 4 of its ten biggest report days were November reports, including -21.4% in 2024 and +17.8% in 2023. Home Depot is the quietest at 1.9% and has never moved 10% on a report. TJX has closed up on 45 of its 67 report days, the best record of the five. The full tables, the gaps, and the November-only numbers are below.

The schedule for November 17-19, 2026, with what each company has said

Every one of the five reports before the open, so the reaction day is the report day itself. Two dates are from the companies; three are expected, because Home Depot, Target and TJX had not posted their notices when this was written (Home Depot announced last year's November call on November 4). The expected dates are not guesses: they are each company's usual slot, and the recent pattern from EDGAR is given with each one.

Tuesday, November 17: Home Depot (expected)

  • Pattern: all 16 November reports since 2010 came on a Tuesday, before the open, with the call at 9:00 AM ET. Last year's was November 18.
  • Guidance to judge against, from the August 18 release, which reaffirmed fiscal 2026: total sales growth of approximately 2.5% to 4.5%, comparable sales approximately flat to up 2.0%, and diluted earnings per share approximately flat to up 4.0% from $14.23. Second-quarter sales were $47.9 billion with comparable sales up 1.7%.
  • Same day: October import and export prices at 8:30 AM, and Nvidia after the close.

Wednesday, November 18: Lowe's (tentative), Target and TJX (expected)

  • Lowe's: listed on its investor site as "Q3 2026 Lowe's Companies, Inc. Earnings Conference Call (tentative)" at 9:00 AM ET. Its August 19 outlook, from the release: total sales of $92.0 billion, comparable sales flat, diluted EPS of approximately $11.75, each narrowed to the low end of the earlier range. Second-quarter sales were $26.0 billion with comparable sales up 0.2%.
  • Target: expected Wednesday morning (its last four November reports were all Wednesdays; the exchange calendars split between the 18th and the 19th, and Target had not posted a date). From the August 19 release: full-year net sales growth "in a range around 5 percent" and GAAP and adjusted EPS of $9.90 to $10.90, which "includes second quarter tariff refund benefits of approximately $1.65." Second-quarter net sales grew 5.3% with comparable sales up 3.8%.
  • TJX: expected Wednesday morning (the last six November reports were all Wednesdays; TJX's press release goes out at about 9:30 AM ET, as the opening bell rings). Its third-quarter outlook from the August 19 release: comparable sales up 2% to 3% and adjusted EPS of $1.30 to $1.32, with full-year fiscal 2027 adjusted EPS raised to $5.15 to $5.20. Second-quarter comparable sales rose 4%.
  • Same day: the minutes of the October 27-28 FOMC meeting at 2:00 PM ET, per the Federal Reserve's November calendar.

Thursday, November 19: Walmart (confirmed)

  • Walmart: "FY2027 Q3 Earnings Release, Nov. 19, 2026, 7:00 a.m. US/Central," per its events page; in past quarters the call has followed at 8:00 AM ET. The guidance it set on August 20, word for word from the release: "For Q3, net sales are expected to grow 3.0% to 3.75% and adjusted operating income to grow 2.0% to 4.0%," with adjusted EPS of $0.62 to $0.64 for the quarter and $2.80 to $2.87 for the year. The company flagged "a headwind of over 100bps to growth" in the quarter from the timing of Flipkart's Big Billion Days sale. Second-quarter revenue was $187.9 billion, up 5.9%.
  • Friday, November 20: monthly options expiration, the third Friday. Then the Thanksgiving week.

How we measured the 336 report days

For each company we took every Form 8-K with an Item 2.02 (results of operations) from EDGAR since 2010. The filing's acceptance time, converted to Eastern time, decides the reaction session: all five file before the open, so the report day is the reaction day, measured close to close on dividend- and split-adjusted daily bars. The gap is the open against the prior close; "open to close" is what the session did after the gap. Three Target filings that were sales updates or preliminary results rather than quarterly reports were dropped. TJX is a special case: its release is accepted between 9:09 and 10:34 AM ET, so its "gap" sometimes already includes the news and sometimes does not; the close-to-close number is the one to read for TJX.

Home Depot: the quietest reporter of the five

Home Depot: 67 report days since 2010. Up 35, down 32. Median swing 1.9% in either direction, median move +0.3%. 9 of 67 moved at least 5% and 0 at least 10%. Extremes: +5.7% on November 16, 2021 and -8.8% on February 22, 2022. Median opening gap 1.9%, median open-to-close -0.1%; the gap's direction reversed by the close 20 times. The five sessions after a report: up 29 of 67, median -0.6%. The S&P 500's median move on those days was 0.58%.

November reports only (16): up 8, down 8, median swing 2.3%, median move +0.3%. Since 2023: 8 up of 15, median swing 1.3%.

Home Depot earnings days are small. In 67 reports it has never moved 10% and moved 5% only 9 times; the biggest November day was +5.7% on November 16, 2021, and last November's -6.0% was its worst November in the record. Because the moves are small, the gap reversed by the close 20 times, about 30%, which is noise rather than a pattern. The week after a report has leaned slightly down, 29 of 67 up.

The last eight, report day first, then the close-to-close move, the opening gap and the open-to-close:

  • Nov 12, 2024: -1.3%, gap +1.5%, open to close -2.7%.
  • Feb 25, 2025: +2.8%, gap +0.7%, open to close +2.1%.
  • May 20, 2025: -0.6%, gap +1.8%, open to close -2.4%.
  • Aug 19, 2025: +3.2%, gap +1.6%, open to close +1.5%.
  • Nov 18, 2025: -6.0%, gap -5.0%, open to close -1.0%.
  • Feb 24, 2026: +2.0%, gap +3.2%, open to close -1.2%.
  • May 19, 2026: +0.9%, gap -2.6%, open to close +3.6%.
  • Aug 18, 2026: -0.1%, gap -0.3%, open to close +0.2%.

Walmart: the recent reports have been the big ones

Walmart: 67 report days since 2010. Up 31, down 36. Median swing 3.0% in either direction, median move -0.5%. 16 of 67 moved at least 5% and 3 at least 10%. Extremes: +10.9% on November 16, 2017 and -11.4% on May 17, 2022. Median opening gap 2.6%, median open-to-close -0.2%; the gap's direction reversed by the close 11 times. The five sessions after a report: up 25 of 67, median -1.2%. The S&P 500's median move on those days was 0.51%.

November reports only (16): up 8, down 8, median swing 3.0%, median move -0.0%. Since 2023: 7 up of 15, median swing 4.5%.

Walmart's record has two halves. Through 2022 the median swing was modest and the extremes were +10.9% on November 16, 2017, a November report, and -11.4% on May 17, 2022. Since 2023 the median swing has risen to 4.5%, with 7 of 15 up, and the last three reports went -1.4%, -7.3% and -9.2%. The two most recent November reports were both up, +3.0% in 2024 and +6.5% in 2025, after -8.1% in 2023; the sixteen Novembers split 8 and 8.

The last eight, report day first, then the close-to-close move, the opening gap and the open-to-close:

  • Nov 19, 2024: +3.0%, gap +2.6%, open to close +0.4%.
  • Feb 20, 2025: -6.5%, gap -5.0%, open to close -1.6%.
  • May 15, 2025: -0.5%, gap -2.6%, open to close +2.2%.
  • Aug 21, 2025: -4.5%, gap -3.1%, open to close -1.5%.
  • Nov 20, 2025: +6.5%, gap +3.3%, open to close +3.0%.
  • Feb 19, 2026: -1.4%, gap +1.5%, open to close -2.8%.
  • May 21, 2026: -7.3%, gap -4.9%, open to close -2.5%.
  • Aug 20, 2026: -9.2%, gap -6.9%, open to close -2.4%.

Target: the stock that moves, and November is where it moves most

Target: 68 report days since 2010. Up 37, down 31. Median swing 3.9% in either direction, median move +0.6%. 26 of 68 moved at least 5% and 11 at least 10%. Extremes: +20.4% on August 21, 2019 and -24.9% on May 18, 2022. Median opening gap 3.0%, median open-to-close +0.2%; the gap's direction reversed by the close 9 times. The five sessions after a report: up 36 of 68, median +0.7%. The S&P 500's median move on those days was 0.41%.

November reports only (16): up 7, down 9, median swing 5.6%, median move -1.6%. Since 2023: 9 up of 16, median swing 4.7%.

Target is in a different class. 26 of its 68 report days moved at least 5% and 11 at least 10%, with a record from +20.4% on August 21, 2019 to -24.9% on May 18, 2022. The November reports are the volatile ones: a median swing of 5.6% against 3.9% overall, and 4 of the ten biggest report days in the whole record were Novembers: -21.4% in 2024, +17.8% in 2023, +14.1% in 2019, -13.1% in 2022. The lean in November is down, 7 up of 16, median -1.6%. Target's gaps hold: the direction reversed by the close only 9 times in 68, so the first print has usually been the day.

The last eight, report day first, then the close-to-close move, the opening gap and the open-to-close:

  • Mar 4, 2025: -3.0%, gap -2.7%, open to close -0.3%.
  • May 21, 2025: -5.2%, gap -6.8%, open to close +1.6%.
  • Aug 20, 2025: -6.3%, gap -10.4%, open to close +4.5%.
  • Nov 19, 2025: -2.8%, gap -2.4%, open to close -0.4%.
  • Feb 11, 2026: +2.2%, gap +0.8%, open to close +1.5%.
  • Mar 3, 2026: +6.7%, gap +2.5%, open to close +4.1%.
  • May 20, 2026: -3.9%, gap -5.5%, open to close +1.8%.
  • Aug 19, 2026: +4.3%, gap -3.1%, open to close +7.6%.

Lowe's: moves more than Home Depot on its own number

Lowe's: 67 report days since 2010. Up 35, down 32. Median swing 3.0% in either direction, median move +0.2%. 19 of 67 moved at least 5% and 4 at least 10%. Extremes: +10.4% on May 23, 2018 and -11.8% on May 22, 2019. Median opening gap 3.0%, median open-to-close +0.0%; the gap's direction reversed by the close 15 times. The five sessions after a report: up 38 of 67, median +0.9%. The S&P 500's median move on those days was 0.37%.

November reports only (16): up 8, down 8, median swing 3.5%, median move -0.3%. Since 2023: 8 up of 15, median swing 1.9%.

Lowe's reports the morning after Home Depot and has historically moved more on its own number than Home Depot does: a median swing of 3.0% against 1.9%, with 4 days of 10% or more where Home Depot has none. The extremes, +10.4% on May 23, 2018 and -11.8% on May 22, 2019, were both May reports; the Novembers split 8 and 8 with a median swing of 3.5%. Since 2023 the swings have been smaller, 1.9% median. Last November was +4.0%.

The last eight, report day first, then the close-to-close move, the opening gap and the open-to-close:

  • Nov 19, 2024: -4.6%, gap -3.2%, open to close -1.5%.
  • Feb 26, 2025: +1.9%, gap +3.9%, open to close -1.9%.
  • May 21, 2025: -1.7%, gap +0.6%, open to close -2.3%.
  • Aug 20, 2025: +0.3%, gap +3.5%, open to close -3.1%.
  • Nov 19, 2025: +4.0%, gap +4.8%, open to close -0.7%.
  • Feb 25, 2026: -5.6%, gap -4.4%, open to close -1.2%.
  • May 20, 2026: +1.2%, gap -2.0%, open to close +3.3%.
  • Aug 19, 2026: +2.0%, gap +0.6%, open to close +1.4%.

TJX: up on 45 of 67 report days

TJX: 67 report days since 2010. Up 45, down 22. Median swing 2.9% in either direction, median move +1.0%. 17 of 67 moved at least 5% and 0 at least 10%. Extremes: +8.7% on August 19, 2014 and -7.6% on May 20, 2014. Median opening gap 2.4%, median open-to-close +0.3%; the gap's direction reversed by the close 12 times. The five sessions after a report: up 46 of 67, median +2.2%. The S&P 500's median move on those days was 0.46%.

November reports only (16): up 11, down 5, median swing 1.8%, median move +0.3%. Since 2023: 10 up of 15, median swing 2.7%.

TJX, the parent of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods, has the most one-sided record of the five: up 45 times, down 22, median move +1.0%, and the five sessions after a report up 46 of 67 with a median of +2.2%, the best follow-through here. It has never moved 10% on a report; the extremes are +8.7% on August 19, 2014 and -7.6% on May 20, 2014. November reports: 11 up of 16, median swing 1.8%. The two most recent Novembers were near flat, +0.1% in 2024 and +0.2% in 2025.

The last eight, report day first, then the close-to-close move, the opening gap and the open-to-close:

  • Nov 20, 2024: +0.1%, gap -0.1%, open to close +0.2%.
  • Feb 26, 2025: +1.8%, gap +2.6%, open to close -0.8%.
  • May 21, 2025: -2.9%, gap -2.8%, open to close -0.1%.
  • Aug 20, 2025: +2.7%, gap +6.6%, open to close -3.7%.
  • Nov 19, 2025: +0.2%, gap +3.4%, open to close -3.1%.
  • Feb 25, 2026: -1.2%, gap -0.1%, open to close -1.1%.
  • May 20, 2026: +5.7%, gap +1.5%, open to close +4.1%.
  • Aug 19, 2026: -4.2%, gap -4.5%, open to close +0.2%.

The five together: what November has looked like since 2016

Report-day move for each company's November report, by year. The five report within three days of each other, so this is as close as the calendar gets to a single read on the consumer:

  • 2016: Home Depot -2.6%, Walmart -3.1%, Target +6.4%, Lowe's -2.9%, TJX -1.0%.
  • 2017: Home Depot +1.6%, Walmart +10.9%, Target -9.9%, Lowe's -1.1%, TJX -4.0%.
  • 2018: Home Depot -0.2%, Walmart -2.0%, Target -10.5%, Lowe's -5.7%, TJX -4.4%.
  • 2019: Home Depot -5.4%, Walmart -0.3%, Target +14.1%, Lowe's +3.9%, TJX +1.8%.
  • 2020: Home Depot -2.5%, Walmart -2.0%, Target +2.3%, Lowe's -8.2%, TJX +1.9%.
  • 2021: Home Depot +5.7%, Walmart -2.5%, Target -4.7%, Lowe's +0.4%, TJX +5.8%.
  • 2022: Home Depot +1.6%, Walmart +6.5%, Target -13.1%, Lowe's +3.0%, TJX +5.2%.
  • 2023: Home Depot +5.4%, Walmart -8.1%, Target +17.8%, Lowe's -3.1%, TJX -3.3%.
  • 2024: Home Depot -1.3%, Walmart +3.0%, Target -21.4%, Lowe's -4.6%, TJX +0.1%.
  • 2025: Home Depot -6.0%, Walmart +6.5%, Target -2.8%, Lowe's +4.0%, TJX +0.2%.

In those ten Novembers the five all closed down on the same report week once, in 2018, and there was no November in which all five closed up. Most years the group splits, and the split is usually Target against the rest: Target was the biggest mover of the five in 6 of the ten Novembers. Reading one retailer's print as a verdict on the consumer has not worked; reading the five together, with Walmart last on Thursday, is the version that holds up.

Ranking the five by what a report day usually does

Median swing either direction, the share of report days at least 5%, and the up-down count:

  • Target: 3.9% median swing, 38% of report days at least 5%, 37 up and 31 down.
  • Lowe's: 3.0% median swing, 28% of report days at least 5%, 35 up and 32 down.
  • Walmart: 3.0% median swing, 24% of report days at least 5%, 31 up and 36 down.
  • TJX: 2.9% median swing, 25% of report days at least 5%, 45 up and 22 down.
  • Home Depot: 1.9% median swing, 13% of report days at least 5%, 35 up and 32 down.

The S&P 500 has barely noticed any of them: its median move on these 336 days ran between 0.37% and 0.58%, an ordinary session, consistent with our earnings-season study that the index moves on a handful of giant names, this week Nvidia on Tuesday night, not on the retailers.

How we handle a week like this, and what we leave alone

We do not forecast any of these prints, and the software does not trade the report itself. Three settings do the work. Earnings awareness is an opt-in rule, off by default, that keeps the auto-trader from opening a position in a stock whose report falls inside a window you pick, 3, 7 or 14 days ahead; with five reporters in three days plus Nvidia, that window is the one to check the weekend before. The daily spend limit caps how much new money goes to work on any one morning. A fixed or trailing stop on every position decides the exit before the number, not during the 7:00 AM scramble. The settings glossary explains each one, and you can set those rules up in a few minutes.

One more thing specific to this week. All five report before the open, so by 9:30 AM the move has happened: a momentum rule meets Walmart on Thursday as a stock already up or down several percent with the news out, not as a report in progress, the same point we made about Uber and Pfizer this week. That is different from the after-close reporters, where the gap at the next open is the first thing the rules see. If you want to watch how the mechanics handle a morning like that on a sample account before connecting a broker, start with the demo. The rest of the month, including CPI on the 10th and the 1:00 PM close on the 27th, is on the November calendar, and the Q3 earnings season guide lists the remaining reporters by week.
