Settings glossary: every setting and term, explained

One page that defines every setting in Settings > Trading, Settings > AI Personality and Settings > Broker, plus the terms that appear in the activity feed and in emails from us. Each entry says what the control does mechanically. None of it is a recommendation; the values are yours to choose.

How an auto-trade is sized, in one paragraph

The auto-trader starts from a pool: your cash (or the sizing basis you picked) multiplied by Max Cash for Auto-Trading %. With Smart Position Sizing on, each order is a slice of that pool between the base and max percentages, scaled by the AI's confidence. With it off, the order is the fixed Qty Per Auto-Trade. Max $ Per Auto-Trade then trims the order to a dollar ceiling. Whole-share brokers round the share count down. Finally the order must fit under the Daily Spend Limit, Max Total Auto-Trade Exposure, Max Open Positions and Max New Positions / Day, or it is skipped and the feed says why.

Settings > Trading: trade rules

  • Enable Day Trading: allows a position opened today to be closed today. Off means positions are held at least overnight. Your broker's own margin rules still apply.
  • Approve Each Auto-Trade Buy (Approval Mode): every buy the AI wants to make is sent to you by email and notification and waits for your yes. Nothing is bought until you approve, and the request expires if you ignore it. Sells, stop-losses and trailing stops always run immediately.
  • Paper Trading Mode: shown when the connected account is a paper account. Trades use simulated money with real market data.

Settings > Trading: position limits

  • Daily Spend Limit ($): the most the auto-trader may spend on buys in one calendar day, per profile. Sells never count. Your plan's own daily cap always applies; this field only lowers it. Resets overnight.
  • Max $ Per Auto-Trade: a hard dollar ceiling on any single auto-trade order, applied after sizing. Set $1,000 and a $35 stock gets at most 28 shares. On whole-share brokers the count rounds down; if the cap buys less than one share, the trade is skipped. Empty means off.
  • Max Total Auto-Trade Exposure ($): caps the combined cost of every position the auto-trader currently holds, across days. New buys pause once the cap is reached and resume as positions close. Empty means off.
  • Max Open Positions: how many separate positions may be open at once. New buys are blocked at the limit until something is sold.
  • Max New Positions / Day: how many brand-new positions may be opened in one calendar day. Different from Max Open Positions.
  • Min Hold Before Sell: hours a position must be held before a profit-target sell can trigger. Stop-losses still fire immediately. Empty means off.

Settings > Trading: auto-exit targets

  • Default Profit Target (%): the gain at which the system sells automatically. Attached to every auto-trade at entry.
  • Default Stop Loss (%): the loss at which the system sells automatically. Attached to every auto-trade at entry.
  • Trailing Stop (%): a stop-loss that moves up as the price rises, locking in gains. It never moves down. Blank uses the auto-trader default of 2%.
  • Max Daily Loss ($): once realized losses in a day reach this amount, auto-trading pauses until the next day. Also called the daily loss brake. Empty means off.
  • Auto-Close Manual Trades: lets the auto-trader close positions you bought by hand. Off means only auto-bought positions are auto-closed.
  • Auto-Manage Broker Trades: applies your default profit target and stop-loss to positions you opened directly at your broker, so the auto-trader can close them. A target the position has already passed is never attached. Off means imported positions are watch-only.

Settings > Trading: auto-trading

  • Enable Auto-Trading: the master switch. Off means no automated scans run for the profile and no orders are placed; you can still request predictions by hand and trade manually.
  • Min Confidence (50-100): the AI scores every prediction from 0 to 100. Only predictions at or above this floor are traded. New accounts start at 100, the most selective setting.
  • Symbol Selection: Watchlist Only means the AI analyzes only the symbols on your watchlist. AI Free Range means it also scans top movers, breakouts and trending names.
  • Qty Per Auto-Trade: a fixed number of shares (or coins) per signal, used when Smart Position Sizing is off. It is a share count, not a dollar amount, so a $35 stock and a $350 stock get the same number of shares.
  • Position Sizing Basis: the number the sizing percentages are taken from. Cash uses settled cash (the default). Buying power uses what your broker says you can spend right now, which on a margin account includes margin. Equity uses total portfolio value.
  • Max Cash for Auto-Trading (%): the share of your sizing basis the auto-trader may use. This forms the pool that Smart Position Sizing slices from.
  • Smart Position Sizing: sizes each order as a percentage of the pool, from the base percentage at your minimum confidence up to the max percentage at 100% confidence. The percentages are of the pool, not of a dollar budget.
  • Fractional Shares: allows orders for part of a share where the broker supports it (Alpaca). Schwab, Tradier and tastytrade fill whole shares only, so the share count rounds down there regardless.

Settings > AI Personality

  • Asset Classes: stocks, crypto, or both. Stocks trade 9:30 AM to 4 PM ET on business days; crypto trades around the clock.
  • Sector Focus: limits scans to the sectors you pick. Empty means all sectors.
  • Risk Tolerance: Conservative, Moderate or Aggressive. It sets how wide the AI's scan lists are and how marginal a setup it will surface. Aggressive builds the longest lists and uses your daily scan budget fastest.
  • Trading Strategy: the lens the AI uses to spot setups: Momentum, Value, Contrarian or Balanced.
  • Market Bias: Bearish, Neutral, Bullish or Very Bullish. It tilts how split signals are resolved.
  • Preferred Price Range and Max Price Per Share: restrict scans to a share-price bracket, or skip any stock above a price.
  • Prefer High Volume: favors liquid names with above-average volume.
  • Avoid Earnings: skips stocks with an earnings report inside the window you choose.
  • Custom Instructions (Pro and Elite): your own words about what to favor or avoid, applied to every scan.

Settings > Broker

  • Profile: one connected brokerage account with its own settings, caps and history. Every account has one profile; Pro and Elite accounts can add more.
  • Connect / Disconnect: connecting grants JorgAI permission to read your account and place orders through the broker's official API. It can never withdraw or transfer money. Disconnecting hides your history rather than deleting it; reconnecting the same account restores it.
  • Paper account: a free Alpaca paper account that trades simulated money with real market data. The auto-trader treats it exactly like a live account.

Terms you will see in the activity feed and in emails

  • Scan: one pass where the AI reads a symbol's data and produces a prediction. Your plan sets a daily budget of scans per asset class (Starter 8 stock and 4 crypto, Pro 30 and 15, Elite 75 and 40), paced through the trading day so the budget is not used up in the first hour.
  • Prediction: the AI's call on a symbol: BUY, HOLD or SELL, a confidence score from 0 to 100, and its reasoning in plain English.
  • Confidence score: how strongly the models agree on a call. Compared against your Min Confidence before any trade.
  • BUY: a prediction cleared your confidence floor and every limit, and an order went to your broker.
  • SELL: a position hit its profit target, its stop-loss, its trailing stop, or an exit signal.
  • SKIP: the AI looked and declined, and the entry says why: confidence under your floor, a cap reached, a cooldown, or a quality gate. Most days have more skips than trades.
  • Daily scan, intraday scan, momentum scan, discovery scan, pre-market scan: the different passes the auto-trader runs. The daily scan works through your symbol list near the open; intraday scans repeat through the session; momentum and discovery scans look for unusual moves and breakouts (AI Free Range only); the pre-market scan flags large pre-open moves.
  • Cooldown: after a symbol has been scored, it is not scored again for a set time (one hour on Aggressive and Moderate, two on Conservative), so one name cannot consume the budget.
  • AI scan budget paced: your plan's daily scans are released gradually through the session. This message means the next scan unlocks later in the day.
  • Quality gate: a setup was passed over because it was illiquid, had already moved too far for the day, or was a leveraged product.
  • Auto-trade cap: your plan's limit on automated buys per day (Starter 3, Pro 15, Elite unlimited). The feed tells you when it is reached.
  • Stale position rule: an auto-trade that has sat 48 hours or more while down 2% or more, without reaching its target or stop, is closed so the capital can be reused.
  • Bracket: the profit target and stop-loss attached to a position at entry.
  • Whole shares: Schwab, Tradier and tastytrade fill whole shares only. Any sized quantity is rounded down to a whole number, and an order that rounds to zero is skipped with a message naming the reason.
  • Pool: your sizing basis multiplied by Max Cash for Auto-Trading %. The amount Smart Position Sizing works from.
  • Exposure: the combined cost of every open auto-trade position, measured against Max Total Auto-Trade Exposure.
  • Reconcile: every few minutes JorgAI compares its records with your broker's. Positions you opened at the broker show up as imported positions (watch-only unless Auto-Manage Broker Trades is on), and positions closed at the broker are closed in your history.
  • Simulation mode: what the dashboard shows before a broker is connected: the auto-trader running on JorgAI's own simulated account so you can see the feed, tiles and sizing before connecting.
