Best Broker Pricing for Automated Trading in 2026: Every Fee a Bot Pays at Schwab, Alpaca, Tradier, tastytrade, Kraken and Crypto.com, With a Real Monthly Cost Table

For stocks and ETFs, the cheapest broker pricing for automated trading is a tie: Charles Schwab, Alpaca and tastytrade charge $0 per online stock order, and Tradier matches them only on its $10-a-month Pro plan (its free Lite plan charges $0.35 per order, which is $0.70 per completed round trip). What separates the brokers for a bot is everything after the stock commission: $0.65 a contract on options at Schwab against $1 to open and $0 to close at tastytrade, a 0.25% taker fee on crypto at Alpaca against 0.80% at Kraken's entry tier and 0.50% at the Crypto.com Exchange, and whether you need a paid data plan to run software at all.
This page lists every fee a trading bot pays at the six brokers JorgAI members connect, read from each broker's own pricing page on October 28, 2026, and then prices three real months of automated trading at each one. The activity profiles come from 30 days of live auto-trades on the platform (aggregates only), so the table reflects what accounts actually do rather than a hypothetical day trader. JorgAI's own subscription is a separate line and is on the pricing page; nothing here is a recommendation of any broker.
What a bot pays, broker by broker
Charles Schwab. $0 online stock and ETF commissions, options at $0 base plus $0.65 per contract, no account minimum and no fee for API access through the Trader API. Regulatory pass-through fees apply on sells, as at every US broker. Margin interest is a published tier schedule that moves with the federal funds rate (the Robinhood against Schwab cost page walks through it). Schwab's retail crypto trading is not exposed to the Trader API, so no crypto fee applies to automation here. The one non-dollar cost is operational: the API token has to be re-authorized every seven days, covered in the Schwab setup guide.
Alpaca. Commission-free stock and ETF trading for retail accounts, with the pricing page noting that the Elite smart router and certain partner arrangements can carry commissions. Crypto is an explicit maker/taker fee, 0.15% maker and 0.25% taker under $100,000 of 30-day volume, stepping down to 0.00% and 0.10% above $100 million. Market data has a free tier and a $99-a-month Algo Trader Plus plan with the full consolidated feed; JorgAI runs on the free IEX feed, so members do not pay it. Fractional and notional orders are accepted, which matters for small accounts (more on that below).
Tradier. Three plans on Tradier's pricing page: Lite at $0 a month with $0.35 per stock order and $0.35 per options contract; Pro at $10 a month with $0 stock orders and $0 equity options; Pro Plus at $35 a month, which lowers index options to $0.10 a contract and the assignment fee from $9 to $5. Accounts under $2,000 that place fewer than two trades a year pay a $50 inactivity fee, which an active auto-trader never triggers. Tradier requires whole-share quantities, so a $105 position in a $150 stock rounds to zero shares.
tastytrade. $0 on stocks, ETFs and fractional shares; stock and ETF options $1 per contract to open with a $10 cap per leg and $0 to close; index options $1 to open and $0 to close; micro E-mini futures $0.75 a side. The API costs nothing extra. JorgAI routes stocks and ETFs through tastytrade, not crypto or futures, so for automation the relevant line is the $0 stock commission.
Kraken (spot). Volume-tiered maker/taker fees: 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker at tier 1 ($0 to $2,500 of 30-day volume), 0.30% and 0.60% from $2,500, 0.22% and 0.38% from $10,000, 0.20% and 0.35% from $25,000, down to 0.00% and 0.10% at $10 million. The tier is computed on rolling 30-day volume, so an account that trades $30,000 a month settles at the $25,000 tier by mid-month. Kraken also sells a Kraken+ subscription ($4.99 a month after a 30-day trial) that removes trading fees on the first $10,000 of monthly volume; Kraken's page presents it as a feature of the Kraken app rather than Kraken Pro, so do not count on it for API orders until Kraken says otherwise.
Crypto.com Exchange. 0.25% maker and 0.50% taker at the entry tier, with higher VIP tiers that depend on 30-day volume and on how much CRO is locked up (read from the exchange fee page on October 28). The Exchange is the venue a bot can trade; the Crypto.com App is a separate product with spread-based pricing and no trading API.
The published fees in one list
Every line below is from the broker's own page on October 28, 2026. Regulatory pass-through fees on stock sells (FINRA's Trading Activity Fee and the CAT fee, plus any SEC Section 31 fee at the rate in force) apply at all four stock brokers and come to about a cent on a $100 order and a few cents on a $1,000 order; they are not listed per broker.
- Stock and ETF orders: Schwab $0, Alpaca $0, tastytrade $0, Tradier $0.35 on Lite and $0 on Pro or Pro Plus. Kraken and Crypto.com do not trade stocks.
- Options, per contract: Schwab $0.65 open and close, tastytrade $1 open ($10 cap per leg) and $0 close, Tradier $0.35 on Lite and $0 on Pro for equity options, Alpaca per its fee schedule. JorgAI's auto-trader does not trade options, so this line only matters for orders you place yourself.
- Crypto, entry tier, maker / taker: Alpaca 0.15% / 0.25%, Crypto.com Exchange 0.25% / 0.50%, Kraken 0.40% / 0.80%. A market-order round trip at the entry tier costs 0.50%, 1.00% and 1.60% of the position respectively.
- Monthly subscription to get $0 stock orders: Tradier $10 (Pro). None at Schwab, Alpaca or tastytrade.
- Monthly subscription that changes crypto fees: Kraken+ $4.99 (zero fees on the first $10,000 of monthly volume, presented for the Kraken app rather than Kraken Pro). None at Alpaca; Crypto.com tiers come from volume and CRO lockup, not a subscription.
- Market data for a bot: free tiers at all six; Alpaca's full consolidated feed is $99 a month. The feed each API actually gives you is in the real-time data comparison.
- Fractional or notional orders (the hidden cost for small accounts): Alpaca, tastytrade, Kraken, Crypto.com yes; Schwab and Tradier whole shares only.
What a real month of automated trading costs
To price a month honestly you need to know how many round trips a real account makes and how big they are. Over the 30 days to October 28, 2026, nine live accounts on JorgAI placed 160 automated buys (141 of them closed within the window). The median auto-trade was $105; a quarter were under $46 and a quarter above $728, with about one in ten at $1,000 or more. On a day the auto-trader bought at all, the median account placed two orders (three at the 75th percentile, fourteen at the busiest), which worked out to a median of 11 auto-trades per account per month and a maximum of 50. The average position was held about 33 hours. Twenty of the 26 connected accounts are at Schwab, five at Alpaca and one at Kraken.
Three profiles cover that range: the median member (11 round trips a month at $105), a member running at the Starter plan's cap of three auto-trades a day (63 round trips at $500) and one at the Pro cap of fifteen a day (315 round trips at $1,000). Here is each month's fees at each broker, stocks first, with the crypto venues priced on taker orders at the fee tier that month's volume earns.
- Median member, 11 round trips at $105 ($1,155 of volume): Schwab, Alpaca, tastytrade and Tradier Pro all cost $0 in commissions, with regulatory pass-throughs under $0.05 for the month; Tradier Pro adds its $10 subscription, Tradier Lite charges $7.70. On crypto the same month costs $5.78 at Alpaca, $11.55 at Crypto.com and $18.48 at Kraken tier 1.
- Starter cap, 63 round trips at $500 ($31,500 of volume): $0 in commissions at Schwab, Alpaca and tastytrade, about $1 of regulatory fees; Tradier Pro $11, Tradier Lite $44.10 plus the $1. Crypto: Alpaca $157.50, Crypto.com $315 at the entry tier, Kraken $220.50 once the volume reaches the $25,000 tier (0.35% taker).
- Pro cap, 315 round trips at $1,000 ($315,000 of volume): $0 in commissions at the three commission-free stock brokers with roughly $10 of regulatory fees; Tradier Pro about $20 and Tradier Lite about $230 including those fees. Crypto: Alpaca $1,386 (the 0.22% tier above $100,000), Kraken $1,386 (0.22% at the $250,000 tier), Crypto.com $3,150 at the entry tier.
Two things stand out. On stocks the broker choice is close to free at every activity level except Tradier Lite, so the fee question collapses into "does the broker accept my order sizes" and "do I need to pay for data". On crypto the fee is the strategy: a 1.60% round trip on a system that targets 3% hands more than half of every winning trade to the exchange, and even Alpaca's 0.50% is a sixth of it. The crypto fee calculator runs these numbers for any size, tier and order style. Members who want the same numbers against their own activity can connect a broker from the start page and read the broker statement after the first month.
The two numbers that decide it
Tradier Lite against Pro: 14.3 round trips. Pro's $10 a month equals 14.3 Lite round trips at $0.70, so any account that completes 15 or more trades a month pays less on Pro, and the median member above sits right at that line. The per-trade charge also scales badly with small positions: $0.70 is 0.67% of the $105 median trade and 1.5% of a $46 trade, which is most of a 2% profit target before the position has moved. The full math on how per-trade pricing punishes automation is in what automated trading actually costs.
Crypto taker fees against your profit target. At the entry tiers a market-order round trip costs 0.50% at Alpaca, 1.00% at Crypto.com and 1.60% at Kraken, before the spread. Entering with a resting limit order and exiting with a stop pays the maker rate going in and the taker rate coming out, which brings Kraken to 1.20% and Alpaca to 0.40%. Measured spreads on BTC and ETH added nothing material on the two exchanges in the three-venue comparison, so for the large pairs the published fee is the whole cost.
Fees that do not apply to automation at these brokers
None of the six charges for API access itself, and none charges a platform fee for letting outside software place orders. Schwab, tastytrade and Tradier include real-time quotes for account holders through their APIs; Alpaca's free tier is the IEX feed, which is what JorgAI uses, so the $99 Algo Trader Plus plan is optional rather than required. Account minimums are $0 at all four stock brokers. Broker-assisted trades ($25 at Schwab) and wires are human-channel fees a bot never touches. What you do pay for separately is the software: JorgAI's plans start at $14.99 a month with a 7-day trial, listed on the pricing page.
How to choose on price
- Stocks only, any account size: Schwab, Alpaca or tastytrade. Commissions are $0 at all three; pick on connection style (Schwab's weekly re-authorization, Alpaca's API keys, tastytrade's sign-in) and on fractional orders if your positions are small.
- Stocks on Tradier: take the Pro plan from day one if the auto-trader will run at all. Lite is the only per-order stock pricing on this list.
- Positions under about $200: choose a broker that accepts fractional or notional orders (Alpaca, tastytrade, the two exchanges). On a whole-share broker a $105 budget in a $150 stock buys nothing, which is a cost of zero trades rather than a fee.
- Crypto: Alpaca is the cheapest published taker rate at every volume level; Kraken closes the gap above $25,000 of monthly volume and ties at $250,000; Crypto.com stays at 1.00% a round trip unless you hold CRO. Widen profit targets to clear the round-trip cost, or enter with limit orders.
- Options: $0.65 a contract at Schwab, $1 to open and $0 to close at tastytrade, $0 on Tradier Pro. Only relevant for orders you place yourself; the order-type matrix and the options API comparison cover what each API can do.
Members connect the broker they already use from the start page; the fees above are charged by the broker on its own statement, and JorgAI's trade history shows the raw price difference, so the broker statement is the place to check net results.
Quick answers
Which broker has the lowest fees for automated trading? For stocks, Schwab, Alpaca and tastytrade all charge $0 per order, and Tradier does on its $10-a-month Pro plan. For crypto, Alpaca's 0.25% taker fee is the lowest published entry rate, against 0.50% at the Crypto.com Exchange and 0.80% at Kraken.
Does Tradier charge per trade? On the free Lite plan, yes: $0.35 per stock order and $0.35 per options contract. The Pro plan ($10 a month) makes stock and equity-option orders $0, and it costs less than Lite for any account that completes about 15 or more round trips a month.
Do I need a paid data plan to run a trading bot? Not at these six. Each API includes a free quote feed; Alpaca's $99 Algo Trader Plus upgrades the free IEX feed to the full consolidated tape, which some strategies want and most retail systems do not.
How much does a crypto trading bot pay in fees per month? At the entry tiers, a member making 11 round trips at $105 pays about $6 at Alpaca, $12 at Crypto.com and $18 at Kraken; at 63 round trips of $500 it is $158, $315 and $221 (Kraken at its $25,000 tier). Fees fall with volume at Kraken and Alpaca and with CRO lockup at Crypto.com.
Data: Schwab, Alpaca, Tradier, tastytrade, Kraken and Crypto.com Exchange pricing pages and Alpaca's crypto fee documentation, read October 28, 2026; activity profiles from JorgAI's live auto-trade records for the 30 days to October 28, 2026 (aggregates only, no individual accounts or outcomes). Fees change; the broker's page is authoritative on the day you trade. Nothing here is investment advice or a recommendation of any broker.
