Tradier Review 2026: Fees, API, and Automated Trading From Real Production Experience

Tradier is a brokerage built around its API: a US broker where programmatic access is the product, not an afterthought. That makes it one of the most automation-friendly brokers available, with simple pricing and token-based API access that takes minutes to set up. This review comes from unusual first-hand ground: we built and operate a live Tradier integration at JorgAI, with real customer accounts trading through it, so what follows covers how the broker actually behaves, not just what its marketing says. Disclosure up front: JorgAI integrates with Tradier and we like working with them, so weigh our perspective accordingly; the numbers below are from Tradier's published pricing and our own production experience.
Tradier's trade: a lean, API-first brokerage with honest per-trade pricing on the free tier and genuinely cheap options trading on Pro. The cost is polish; the payoff is automation access most brokers still do not offer.
What is Tradier?
Tradier Brokerage is a US-regulated broker (FINRA/SIPC member) that focuses on active traders and the platforms serving them. Alongside its own trading interface, it powers dozens of third-party trading tools through its API, which is the main reason many people encounter it: the broker behind the app they already use. Accounts support stocks, ETFs, and options; there is no crypto and no fractional-share trading.
What does Tradier cost in 2026?
Three tiers, per Tradier's published pricing:
- Lite ($0/month): $0.35 per stock trade and $0.35 per options contract. That per-trade fee is the honest catch of the free tier: a round trip (buy plus sell) costs about $0.70, which is negligible on occasional large trades and real money on frequent small ones. Run the math against your expected trade count.
- Pro ($10/month): commission-free stock and ETF trades and commission-free equity options, which is unusually cheap for active options traders. Index options carry $0.35 per contract, and standard exchange and regulatory fees still apply.
- Pro Plus ($35/month): everything in Pro with index options dropping to $0.10 per contract.
For an automated strategy making multiple trades per week, Pro usually pays for itself quickly; our breakdown of what automated trading actually costs walks through that math across brokers.
How good is Tradier for automated trading?
This is where Tradier earns its place. API access uses straightforward account tokens generated in your dashboard, simpler than the OAuth ceremony larger brokers require, and the REST API covers quotes, orders, positions, and account history cleanly. Advanced order handling is real: Tradier supports OTOCO bracket orders, so an entry can carry its stop and target at the broker itself.
Two behaviors from our production experience worth knowing before you automate. First, Tradier trades whole shares only: it rejects dollar-amount orders, so software has to size positions in whole shares (we learned this the direct way and built our sizing around it). Second, the old sub-$25,000 pattern day trading rules were retired in June 2026, though brokers may still apply day-trade limits during the transition through late 2027; automation does not exempt anyone from whatever the broker enforces. Setup takes minutes: generate an API token, connect, and go. The step-by-step is in how to automate trading on a Tradier account.
Tradier pros and cons
- Pros: API-first design with fast token setup; OTOCO brackets held at the broker; genuinely cheap options trading on Pro; transparent flat pricing; welcoming to third-party platforms rather than hostile to them.
- Cons: no crypto and no fractional shares; Lite's per-trade fee punishes frequent small trades; the in-house trading interface is functional but spartan next to Schwab or the big retail apps; smaller name recognition means fewer support resources when something is confusing.
Who is Tradier best for?
Tradier fits traders who care more about programmatic access and costs than about a polished consumer app: algorithmic traders, options traders on Pro pricing, and anyone connecting a rules-based platform. It is one of the three brokers JorgAI supports in production, alongside Alpaca and Charles Schwab; the head-to-head differences are in our Schwab vs Alpaca vs Tradier comparison, and the wider field in best brokers for automated trading. If you want to see rules-based automation on a Tradier account without writing code, set your rules and watch the simulation first.
Frequently asked questions
Is Tradier a legit brokerage?
Yes. Tradier Brokerage is a US-registered broker-dealer and FINRA/SIPC member. It has operated since 2012 and clears real equity and options trades for both direct customers and third-party platforms.
Is Tradier really free?
The Lite account has no monthly fee but charges $0.35 per stock trade and per options contract. Pro at $10 per month removes stock and equity-options commissions, which is the better deal for anyone trading more than a handful of times a month.
Does Tradier have an API?
Yes, and it is the broker's core strength: a REST API with token authentication covering market data, order placement (including OTOCO brackets), positions, and history. Tokens are generated in the account dashboard in minutes.
Can I use trading bots with Tradier?
Yes. Tradier is one of the friendliest US brokers for automated trading and powers many third-party platforms. JorgAI runs live customer automation on Tradier today: your rules, your account, connected in a few minutes.
Does Tradier support fractional shares or crypto?
No to both. Orders are whole shares only, and there is no cryptocurrency trading. If fractional shares or crypto matter to you, Alpaca covers both.
