Stock Market Week Ahead, October 19 to 23, 2026: Netflix, GM, Tesla, Meta and P&G Report, and How Far Each Stock Moves When They Do

Five companies that most people have an opinion about report this week: General Motors and Netflix on Tuesday, Tesla and Meta on Wednesday evening, Procter and Gamble on Thursday morning. The economic calendar is light, the Fed is in its pre-meeting blackout, and the index sits a few percent below its early-October record. So the week will be decided by five earnings reactions, and the useful question is not whether each company beats, but how far each stock tends to move when it reports.
We measured that from the record. For each of the five we took every quarterly earnings report since 2010 (Meta since its 2012 listing) from the company's own 8-K filings and matched it to the stock's close before and after. What follows is the schedule with times, the move table, what has changed in the last four reports for each, the data releases that fill the gaps, and how to hold positions through a week like this by rules rather than reflexes. It is education, not advice.
The schedule, with times
- Monday, October 19: NAHB housing market index, 10:00 AM ET. No major earnings.
- Tuesday, October 20: General Motors before the open (results at about 6:30 AM ET, call at 8:30). September housing starts and building permits, 8:30 AM. Netflix after the close, call at 4:45 PM ET.
- Wednesday, October 21: Tesla after the close, call at 5:30 PM ET. Meta after the close, call at 4:30 PM ET. Both react in Thursday's session.
- Thursday, October 22: Procter and Gamble before the open (fiscal first quarter). Initial jobless claims, 8:30 AM. Conference Board leading index, 10:00 AM.
- Friday, October 23: S&P Global flash PMIs for October, 9:45 AM. University of Michigan final October sentiment, 10:00 AM.
Intel, which some calendars place this week, reports on Thursday, October 29, the same day as the Fed decision. The Fed itself is silent all week: the blackout runs through the October 28 meeting.
How much each stock moves on its report

Close-to-close move on the trading day after each report (the report day itself for GM and P&G, which report before the open). Reports since January 2010; Meta since July 2012.
- Netflix: 69 reports, up after 42%. Median move 9.2%. Moved 10% or more 30 times, 5% or more 51 times. Biggest gain +42.2% (2013), biggest loss -35.1% (2022). Last four: -10.1%, -2.2%, -9.7%, -7.3%.
- Tesla: 42 reports, up after 45%. Median move 5.9%. Moved 10% or more 10 times, 5% or more 22 times. Biggest gain +21.9% (2024), biggest loss -14.5% (2026, the last report). Last four: +2.3%, -3.5%, -3.6%, -14.5%.
- Meta: 57 reports, up after 54%. Median move 5.6%. Moved 10% or more 17 times, 5% or more 32 times. Biggest gain +29.6% (2013), biggest loss -26.4% (2022). Last four: -11.3%, +10.4%, -8.6%, -8.0%.
- General Motors: 66 reports, up after 52%. Median move 3.5%. Moved 10% or more only 2 times, 5% or more 19 times. Biggest gain +14.9% (last October), biggest loss -10.9% (2011). Last four: +14.9%, +8.8%, +1.3%, +4.9%.
- Procter and Gamble: 67 reports, up after 60%. Median move 2.6%. Never moved 10%, and only 3 times 5% or more. Biggest gain +8.8% (2018), biggest loss -6.6% (2013). Last four: +0.2%, +2.6%, +1.7%, -1.9%.
Three things to take from the table. First, the spread is wide: a normal Netflix reaction is three times a normal P&G reaction, so one position-size rule cannot fit both. Second, the three after-close reporters, Netflix, Tesla and Meta, have been down after their last report and, for Netflix and Meta, after three of the last four; the market has been selling good quarters when the spending or the guide disappoints. Third, GM has become a mover: its two largest gains in 16 years came in the last four reports, after a decade in which it almost never moved 5%.
What each report turns on
- Netflix (Tuesday): no more subscriber counts, so revenue and operating margin carry the story, plus the advertising tier. Our Netflix preview has every report since 2017 and what a big drop did in the month after.
- GM (Tuesday): the quarter is expected to show higher profit than a year ago, and the stock has rewarded the last four reports. The questions are tariff costs, EV charges and whether the full-year guide moves.
- Tesla (Wednesday): third-quarter deliveries are already known. The report is about automotive margin, the energy business, and the robotaxi and Optimus timelines that the stock is priced on. Our Tesla piece covers the deliveries and what to watch. The last report produced the stock's largest post-earnings drop since 2010.
- Meta (Wednesday): revenue guided to $61 to $64 billion, consensus near the top of it, and a capex plan of $130 to $145 billion that the market has sold at the last October report. Our Meta study has all 57 reports, including six straight October declines.
- P&G (Thursday): organic sales growth and pricing versus volume. The stock rarely moves much, which is exactly why a surprise is worth a disproportionate amount when it comes.
The rest of the calendar
The data week is light by design. Housing on Monday and Tuesday (builder sentiment, starts, permits), jobless claims and the leading index on Thursday, and the flash PMIs on Friday. None of these has moved the index much on its own this year; our retail-sales study found the same for the consumer reports. The Fed decision on October 28 is the next scheduled macro event, and our pause study covers what the index did after each one since 1994. For the seasonal backdrop, the historically strongest six months of the year start on November 1.
How to hold positions through the week
- Size by the stock's own history, not by one rule. A position that can absorb a 10% gap is the right size for Netflix, Tesla or Meta this week. For P&G a 3% move is the normal case. Position sizing is the lever; the stop is not.
- Know that a stop does not work across an after-close report. The stock reopens at the new price Thursday morning and a stop fills there, wherever that is. The earnings-season guide explains the gap risk in detail.
- Decide the four outcomes in advance. Gap up and extend, gap up and fade, gap down and extend, gap down and fade. The Meta study found morning gaps faded by the close more often than they extended, but the largest moves extended. Write the plan before 4:00 PM on the report day. The playbook has a template.
- Do not let Tuesday change Wednesday. A bad Netflix reaction says nothing about Tesla or Meta. Each report is its own coin.
JorgAI exists for weeks like this one: the position cap, the stop, the target and the daily loss brake are set once and enforced inside your own brokerage account while the reports land. Set your rules before Tuesday rather than after Thursday.
