Best Trading Bots for Kraken in 2026: The Real Options, What They Cost, and the Permissions a Bot Key Needs

Kraken has one of the oldest and best-documented APIs in crypto, which is why most bot platforms support it. The question is not whether you can automate a Kraken account but which kind of automation you want: a grid or DCA bot that runs a fixed pattern, a rule builder you program yourself, or a platform that picks the trades and enforces your risk rules. This guide lists the real options as of October 2026, what each costs, what it needs from your Kraken key, and how to decide. It is education, not advice.
One disclosure up front: we build one of the options below. We have tried to keep every line here to facts you can check on each vendor's own site, and the links go there.
Does Kraken allow trading bots?
Yes. Kraken's API terms permit third-party platforms to trade on your behalf with an API key you create, and Kraken itself publishes a list of trading-bot partners. In July 2026 it went further and opened an API Partner Program for platforms that integrate through OAuth. There is no requirement to whitelist a bot's IP address, which makes Kraken one of the simpler exchanges to connect.
What a bot needs is a key with the right permissions and nothing more. Kraken's key creation page lets you tick them individually: Query Funds, Query Open Orders & Trades, Query Closed Orders & Trades, Create & Modify Orders, Cancel/Close Orders, and Query Ledger Entries cover everything a trading bot does. Withdraw Funds should stay off for any bot, from any vendor. What a trading-only key can and cannot do goes through the permission model in detail.
What are the real options for automating a Kraken account in 2026?
- 3Commas. The most-cited name for Kraken bots. DCA, grid and signal bots, plus a terminal; its exchange page lists Kraken for both spot and futures. Pricing on October 18, 2026: Starter $20 a month ($15 on annual billing), Pro $50 ($38), Expert $140 ($105); no permanent free plan. Crypto only.
- Cryptohopper. Strategy marketplace, copy bots and a visual strategy designer. Its docs list Kraken spot. Pricing: Explorer $29 a month ($24.16 annual), Adventurer $69 ($57.50), Hero $129 ($107.50); the free Pioneer plan was retired in June 2026 and new accounts get a three-day trial. Crypto only.
- Bitsgap. Grid, DCA and combo bots with a demo mode. Its exchange list includes Kraken. Pricing: Basic $29 a month ($23 annual), Advanced $69 ($55), Pro $149 ($119), plus a limited free tier and a seven-day Pro trial. Crypto only.
- Coinrule. If-this-then-that rule builder with templates; its docs list Kraken spot and Kraken Futures, and its site lists stock brokers alongside the exchanges. Pricing: a free plan, then Investor $29.99, Trader $59.99 and Pro $449.99 a month, each with a 0.02% fee on traded volume on top.
- JorgAI. An AI auto-trading platform rather than a bot builder: the AI scans the market and proposes trades, and your rules decide what gets placed and when it exits (stop, trailing stop, profit target, daily loss limit, position caps, optional approval of every buy). Connects to Kraken with a trade-only API key and no IP allow-list, and to five stock brokers and two other crypto venues from the same account. Pricing: Starter $14.99 a month, Pro $99, Elite $199, no fee on traded volume, 7-day free trial without a card. Kraken setup guide.
- Self-hosted software. Gunbot and HaasOnline sell licenses for software you run on your own machine or server, both with Kraken support. More control, more upkeep, and no one else holds your key, but you are the operations team.
Which permissions should a Kraken bot key have?
The same answer for every vendor on this list: the query and order permissions, and never Withdraw Funds. A key without Withdraw cannot move money out of Kraken, whatever happens to the platform holding it. Two Kraken-specific details worth knowing before you create one. Kraken requires two-factor authentication before it issues keys. And Kraken checks every request for an always-increasing number called a nonce; if a platform sends requests from several servers on one key, an optional nonce window of a few seconds on the key prevents false rejections. When we built our own Kraken connection we hit exactly that and added a retry, which is the kind of thing to ask any vendor about.
What does automation on Kraken cost in fees?
The bot subscription is the smaller cost for most accounts. Kraken Pro's fee schedule starts at 0.40% maker and 0.80% taker at tier 1 and steps down from $2,500 of 30-day volume. Bots that enter and exit at market pay the taker rate, so a $1,000 round trip costs about $16 at the entry tier before spread. Our own test orders on a new account paid 0.80% each way. If the bot you pick also charges a percentage of volume (Coinrule's 0.02% is one example), add it to the same line. How crypto fees compound and the fee and spread comparison across Kraken, Crypto.com and Alpaca have the full arithmetic.
Why does non-custodial matter for Kraken holders?
Every option above is non-custodial: your coins stay on Kraken and the platform holds only a key. That is a feature, not a given. It means the worst case for a bad platform is bad trades inside your account, not a missing balance, and it means you can end the relationship by deleting one key at kraken.com. The things that differ between platforms are how they store that key, whether the connection can read your ledger (useful for a cash-activity record), and what happens when the key stops working. Ask each vendor for its answer in writing; ours is in the Kraken guide.
How should you decide?
- You want a fixed pattern (grid, DCA) and you will tune it yourself: 3Commas, Bitsgap or Cryptohopper. Compare on the bot types you will actually run and the number of active bots in the tier you can afford.
- You want to write your own rules in plain English: Coinrule, with the free plan to learn on and the volume fee in mind.
- You want the trade selection done for you and your job to be the risk rules: JorgAI, especially if you also hold stocks at a broker, because the same rules and the same account cover both. How to choose an AI trading bot lists the questions to ask any vendor in this category.
- You want full control and no third party holding a key: self-hosted software, with the maintenance that implies.
Whichever you pick, Kraken's market never closes, so the platform's monitoring matters as much as its entries. Trading a market that never closes covers what that means for stops and for sleep.
If you keep crypto on Kraken and the third option fits, the setup takes about two minutes: a trade-only key, paste, done. Auto-trading stays off until you switch it on.
Quick answers
What is the best trading bot for Kraken? It depends on the job. 3Commas, Bitsgap and Cryptohopper run grid and DCA patterns you configure; Coinrule runs rules you write; JorgAI picks trades with AI and enforces the risk rules you set, across Kraken and stock brokers; Gunbot and HaasOnline are self-hosted. All connect with a trade-only Kraken API key.
Does Kraken have a built-in trading bot? No. Kraken provides the API and, since July 2026, a partner program for platforms that integrate through OAuth. The bots themselves come from third parties.
Is it safe to connect a bot to Kraken? With a key that has no Withdraw Funds permission, a bot can trade but cannot move money out. Keep two-factor on, create one key per platform, and delete a key the moment you stop using it.
Do I need to whitelist an IP address on Kraken? No. Kraken does not require an IP allow-list for API keys. Some other exchanges, including Crypto.com, do.
How much does a Kraken bot cost? Subscriptions on this list run from free tiers to $20 to $30 a month at entry level and $100 to $150 for the top tiers; JorgAI starts at $14.99. Kraken's own trading fees (0.80% taker at the entry tier) usually cost more than the subscription on an active account.
Prices and exchange lists checked on each vendor's website on October 18, 2026; they change, so confirm before you subscribe. JorgAI is the author's product. This article is education, not investment advice.
